Temagami, the gateway to Ontario’s wilderness region as one travels north along Highway #11, is the reality that fuels the popular perception of Canada's great northland. Temagami has old growth pine forests, smooth blue waters, brilliantly white powder snow, and bountiful fish and wildlife. Over the centuries, people have been drawn to the area as if by a magnet.

Temagami is truly an adventurer's mecca. This area is legendary for its canoeing, back country hiking, camping, fishing, and snowmobiling. Visitors who spend time in the community can challenge themselves with climbing the fire tower, tour the restored historic train station, enjoy lunch at one of the popular restaurants, visit a boutique or outfitter along the way, or just take it easy with a picnic at the community waterfront.

Temagami is a pleasant town where friendly faces eagerly welcome you.

Temagami Update #41 on COVID-19

TEMISKAMING HEALTH UNIT COVID-19 SURVEY The Timiskaming Health unit is asking the public to complete an online survey to understand how COVID-19 is affecting local residents. For example, how is COVID-19 impacting you and members of your household’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being? Do you practice physical distancing and wear a mask? Do you agree with these preventive measures? What are your opinions about how well public health is responding?

The Timiskaming Health Unit is asking these and many more questions in a newly launched COVID-19 survey that runs from now until early December 2020. The confidential, anonymous survey is open to anyone 18 years of age and older who lives in the Timiskaming Health Unit area. "We know the pandemic has had a big impact on our community and our personal lives so we encourage everyone to complete the survey, from young adults to older adults" said Dr. Glenn Corneil, Timiskaming’s Acting Medical Officer of Health. "Results from this survey will help us better understand the impact of COVID-19 and related public health measures. Survey findings will inform our ongoing response to the pandemic as well as enable us to provide our best advice for programs and services to support our residents now and beyond the pandemic” added Corneil. The survey findings will also be shared with other organizations to inform decision making.

Community partner and service providers will also be encouraged to share the link to the survey and encourage their clients to have their say. The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and must be done in one session. More information about COVID-19 and a link to the survey can be found at www.timiskaminghu.com. For those who cannot complete the survey online, please contact the Temagami Municipal office to make alternate arrangements.

COPING WITH STRESS AND ANXIETY DURING COVID-19. COVID-19 can cause stress, anxiety and depression for people of all ages. Many worry about their own health and the health of their loved ones and may also have concerns around work, finances and other important parts of their lives. While it is important to be informed and to take action to limit the spread of infection, the amount of information and attention on this topic can increase stress and anxiety.
