Dear Citizens,

COVID-19 is an evolving situation and is impacting everyone in many DIFFERENT ways.  The Municipality of Temagami is no exception.  We do expect the number of cases nationally and provincially to increase and this will continue until everyone does their part.  We ask that everyone take note of the directives set out to deal with COVID-19.  Most importantly remain at home unless it is absolutely necessary to leave, follow social distancing requirements of keeping other people at least 2 meters (6 feet) away.  Also practice self-isolation if you are returning from a high risk area or have any of the signs related to COVID-19.

Both Provincial and Federal levels of Government have and continue to make changes and have put these initiatives in place to help people and businesses deal with the impacts of COVID-19.  At the Municipal level we also reacted accordingly with the cancelling of planned events, requested all department to assess their situations and implementing safety measures in order to keep basic services operational.  From an administration standpoint, the Municipal office has been closed to the public; however staff are available during regular business hours to answer calls, emails and are continuing to deal with ongoing responsibilities and operational requirements.  Council has cancelled all meetings until a special meeting be held to make the necessary changes.  Allowance has been made by the Province to now allow meetings via teleconferencing.  We also need to assess other actions we may need to take to ensure we can continue operating effectively under these circumstances.

To date, our Emergency Control Group has been very active with providing up to date information regarding our Municipality and is continuing to meet, and are monitoring the situation on day by day basis.   Updates have been issued and new COVID-19 information boards have been created and are located throughout our community.  A general information mail update on COVID-19 was also sent out on Friday March 20th to all local residents with a mailing address.  All our updates and important information on COVID-19 has been posted on the Municipal Website and Facebook site.  We have also sent out all of this information using the emails we have obtained as part of our Communicate email system.  If you are not receiving this information, I highly recommend that you send your email address to

Please support the local businesses that are being allowed to stay open to help provide you with items you may need.  In our COVID-19 update #4, we noted how fortunate we are to have all the essential services we need locally.  Our local grocery store is now open and we also have the local pharmacy.  Pharmasave is ready to serve our needs. The local Family Health Team is providing services and also has been working with our Control Group to help make sure we are informed correctly and are getting the correct message out to you.  One thing we can all do is find appropriate ways to check on and assist friends or neighbors to ensure their basic needs are being met.

This is a time where Residents of Temagami need to come together and be conscious of our duties as citizens.  Our Emergency Control Group and those called upon to assist are doing what they can to get us through this situation.  I am very proud how professional and dedicated they all have been and I say thank-you and keep up the good work.  Again, as Mayor I take this responsibility very seriously and compliance is what will help protect people, so please take these measures seriously.  As always, I am open for suggestions or advice so feel free to contact me at

Thanks DAN O.
