A Burning Permit is NOT REQUIRED for recreational (small, contained) campfires, started no earlier than 2 hours before sunset and extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise.
Small contained Campfires for immediate cooking or warmth are permitted.
Burning Permits follow the same timing as recreational fires. Authorization for daytime burning is ONLY granted under specific circumstances.
Other than under a "special circumstances permit", open air burning other than recreational campfires are not authorized in the urban neighbourhoods (townsite or downtown) - Schedule A & B - By-law 11-976.
Failure to follow open air burning requirements may result in charges laid under Municipal by-law or the Forest Fire Prevention Act.
