There are various organizations that provide programs and supports for seniors within the Municipality of Temagami.   This page lists information on these programs, as provided to the Municipality by the organizations.

Temagami Seniors Home Support offers:

  • Diners club at the Ronnoco Building – a hot lunch every day Monday to Friday at 12:00 noon. Cost is $6.00. All seniors are welcome.  Reservations are required - at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Meals on wheels every day Monday to Friday. Cost is $6.00 per day.  
  • A van for seniors transportation.  In town trips are available for any purpose - cost is $3.00 to $4.00 depending on distance. Out of town trips are available ONLY for medical appointments - cost is $24.00 return to New Liskeard; $32.00 return to North Bay; $80.00 return to Sudbury. 
  • Additional programs such as Visiting Social and Safety, telephone reassurance, social programs and educational activities for seniors in the community.

Seniors 3

Temagami Family Health Team offers:
 
  • Same day and next day appointments for urgent care matters (prevents going to Emergency for these).
  • Educational workshops on various topics of interest to seniors.  They are also open to suggestions for topics for these workshops. 
  • A mental health worker who will help seniors with social phobias, grief counseling, etc.
  • Smoking cessation programs.
  • A hypertension management program.
  • Diabetes education.
  • Respiratory therapy services.
  • The Family Health Team can provide information and assistance with a Tele–home care program, which involves putting technology into homes for seniors who need to be able to connect with a nurse each day.
  • Associated Services available at the Family Health Team Building:
    • An Arthritis Society worker who comes in to meet with patients at the FHT building.
    • A physiotherapist, once a month.
    • A chiropractor, every Tuesday.
    • A mobile dental service.
  • The Family Health Team Building houses the Municipality’s Fitness Centre and takes registrations for memberships. Click for more information.

Seniors 2

 
Temagami Public Library Offers:
 
  • A book club – this is not only for seniors, but seniors are active in it.
  • One-on-one computer training for seniors.
  • A “Little Library” program that brings books closer to where people live.
  • Sometimes able to deliver books to shut-ins, by arrangement with the librarian.
  • Local history archives.  There may be opportunities for seniors to provide volunteer assistance with adding to the archives.

Temagami Legion offers:
  • Support for veterans' needs.
  • Social Activities open to the public including:
    • Euchre games at the Legion building on Monday nights @7:00 pm - cost $3.00
    • Cribbage Tournaments on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 1:00 pm - cost $10.00
    • Darts at the Legion building on Friday nights @7:00 pm - cost $5.00 (not during the summer)
    • Prizes to be won.

Municipality of Temagami (Parks and Recreation) offers: 

  • A Fitness Centre in cooperation with the Family Health Team. Special rates for memberships for seniors.Click here for more details.
