Temagami Fire Tower

Temagami Fire Tower

The Temagami Fire Tower is finished and Caribou Mountain is open just in time to catch the fall views! This will included painting and small repairs that were required to keep the tower healthy for generations to come.

The tower is thought to be Temagami’s most famous landmark. Caribou Mountain is where the beautiful tower stands at 100 feet. This makes it the highest point on Highway 11. The original wooden fire tower was built back in 1910, rebuilt with steel in 1951, and then restored in 1998. Residents and visitors from all over visit Temagami’s tower for its breath taking panoramic view. Below the tower is two other lookout platforms, which gives visitors the gorgeous view of Temagami’s area, without the height of the tower. Visitors can also enjoy hikes through the old growth forest. It is easy to gain an appreciation for the wilderness and surrounding natural environment when looking around from the top of the Temagami Tower.

We are excited to have received funding from FedNor for the rehabilitation of Temagami’s Fire Tower. This funding is from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure program. With the help of the funding, the tower has recieved a fresh coat of paint.

Although the tower is closed for the season, come check out our favorite tower's new paint job and enjoy the fall leaves from the lookouts and trails!
